Laura and Mia from the Seep team recently headed to Change Now, the world's largest sustainability conference, to learn how we can evolve our products and practices, make a bigger impact in 2026, and who's making big moves in the space to move towards a better planet.
Our key takeaways
- We need to move beyond recycling
Plastic isn't being enough nor properly recycled, regardless of whether you put it in the right recycling bin or not. It's important we start focusing on other solutions, such as investing on products that are fully compostable or products that will last a lifetime. - Microplastics and health are connected
We've long known that microplastics are a significant environmental issue. But more and more research is showing links between microplastics and health, which we can no longer ignore. Netflix's recent documentary 'The Plastic Detox', for example, shows the impact of microplastics on fertility amongst six couples, and the difference it makes once they reduce microplastics in their daily life. - Progress is better than perfection
We need to come together and collaborate, whether as businesses or individuals. Alongside the movement from the government and bigger corporations, every individual can and should contribute to making an impact. There needs to be a huge shift in everyday practices and items we use to reduce our overall impact.
How you can make an impact
- Start simple with everyday items
Switch out just one thing you own that's made of plastic (e.g. plastic water bottle to reusable water flask, or plastic to glass food container) - Consume less and choose longevity
Switch to refillable products, avoid fast fashion or overconsumption, and, when you do buy, choose things that are long-lasting. - Don't just choose recyclable; choose compostable
Recycling is not a effective long-term option and we need to find a way to move beyond this. Where you can, opt for products that will fully compost back into the environment instead.
Small everyday swaps
At Seep we're moving towards a microplastic-free life, and would love for everyone to join us, so here's an idea to start small...
